Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Simple Steps To Sight Reading Course?
Simple Steps To Sight Reading is the ultimate guide to reading music on bass guitar. It is a multimedia course using a combination of video lessons, PDF workbooks and MP3 backing tracks to provide the most comprehensive, step-by-step approach to sight reading available today.
What level of player is the course aimed at?
The complete course is aimed at any player from beginner to advanced level. Many advanced bass players are lacking in this very specialized area of playing so the number of playing years and experience is irrelevant. If you cannot read music – you cannot read music and this course serves to take you from the absolute basics of reading through to an advanced professional level whatever your standard.
Volume 3 of this course is of a more advanced nature. There are key signatures from 5 to 7 sharps/flats, 16th note rhythms, cut common time, odd time signatures and more advanced techniques such as slapping, harmonics and chords.
What Will I Learn?
Volume 3 of the course steps expands on all of the reading topics covered so far.
In terms of pitch, we move through several keys up to a total of 7 sharps and flats. We also look at the Higher Position above the 12th fret. So by the end of the course you will have a complete knowledge of the entire fretboard in all keys.
From a rhythmic standpoint, we progress onto 16th notes (including rests and ties), we look at Cut Common Time, Shuffle 16th Notes, Odd Time Signatures, Half Note and 16th Note Triplets, Duplets and much much more.
As well as the pitch and rhythm lessons, we also look at many music markings and symbols such as Trills, Fermata, Tremolo, Rallentando, Ritenuto and we also look at more advanced technique notation by way of Slapping, Tapping, Harmonics and Chords!
How Long Are The Lessons?
The lesson lengths vary but the complete course has a total video length of 23 hours! Volume 3 is around 9 hours in length. Plenty of material to keep you practicing for many, many years.
How is the course presented? Do I Download Anything?
The course is hosted on the Talkingbass website so there are no video files to download. There is a lesson material zip file containing all of the course material arranged in appropriate folders.
